Do you sometimes feel you run around like a headless chicken, not knowing what to focus on next in your business? Or maybe you have so many things on your plate that you have a hard time prioritizing what to do first? If you know what you want, then it is easier to know how to plan your day and what to focus on.
The best way I’ve found to get clear on your business goals and achieve them is to have a vision. For this purpose I do a vision exercise at least once a year and I ask all my 1-1 clients to do a vision exercise before we start working together.
Once your vision is clear then you can start to set goals that make sense for your business.
First, you set vision goals, goals you want to achieve in 3-5 years – or even earlier. Then you set annual goals that bring you closer to those vision goals. Once the annual goals are clear it becomes easier to set monthly goals and from there you can start to set weekly goals and in the end you set daily goals.
So let’s say you want to earn $500K annually in your business three years from now. Then a first annual goal could be making $120K, and not necessarily 1/3 of your vision goal. This means that on average you have to make $10K per month and to simplify, that means around $2500 per week – we are assuming here only 2 weeks holidays. In the end this means that you need to earn $500 a day, if we assume you are only earning money on weekdays. Knowing your financial goals is crucial for your business as it enables you to focus on the right goals and achieve them.
To recap, create a vision, and then set the following goals:
- Vision goals
- Annual goals
- Monthly goals
- Weekly goals
- Daily goals
