Overthinking, Overanalysing and Overwhelm: 3 Things That Keep Female Entrepreneurs Stuck

I have been running an online business for the last 10 years. I have helped 6,000 female entrepreneurs start and scale their online business from zero to 7 figures. And there are 3 things I see stopping women from making progress: overthinking, overanalysing and overwhelm.

1. Overthinking

I was there myself. I overthought my business idea for 18 months. I have calculated how much money I lost by not starting earlier, because once I finally started, I made money in my first 12 months. What if I had started 18 months earlier?

Overthinking does not solve anything. It keeps you stuck. You get an idea, and you think about it more and more. Suddenly days, weeks and months have passed, and you have not done anything.

You do not make progress by thinking. You have to do something. Even if it does not turn out to be the right idea, it is better to do something and find out. Maybe you find out you do not want to do that. Then you can do something else.

2. Overanalysing

Overanalysing is related to overthinking. You have an idea, and then you analyse it to death. You think through everything that could go wrong. Basically, you talk yourself out of the idea, and it is easy to talk yourself out of any idea. Even a fantastic business idea can look bad when you overanalyse it.

If I had analysed everything I have done in the last 10 years in that much detail, I would not have started my business at all. We are capable of so much more. It is better to find that out as you go than to talk yourself out of the great ideas you already have.

3. Overwhelm

Overwhelm comes from having so many choices. You can choose what to build your business on. Once you have the idea, there are different paths to make it happen. Then come all the strategic decisions about marketing and sales, and then all the tools. The list goes on and on.

It is easy to get overwhelmed, and when you are, you need to get advice. Sitting there feeling overwhelmed means you do nothing. It keeps you stuck.

I was overwhelmed myself. There were so many ways I could start my online business, and I tried to do them all. In most cases overwhelm makes you feel stuck. I did something else, which I call spaghetti marketing. I did a lot of things. Only when I decided to get the right strategy and the right support did things fall into place, like pieces in a puzzle.

Clear Steps Get You Out of All 3

The main way out of overwhelm is to have very clear steps. You know exactly what to do every day, every week and every month. When you know that, you do not get overwhelmed, and you do not worry about what is happening tomorrow or next week. The key is a checklist, a to-do list.

When you start an online business, you cannot create that list yourself. You need to get it from someone else. Join a program or get support from someone who gives you the list, and then follow it.

I created SOMBA Kickstart, my signature program, in 2018 because I saw women struggling with overthinking, overanalysing and overwhelm. I was frustrated that they were not making as much progress as I hoped for. I knew it was not their fault. I just needed to teach differently, with the right strategy, the right support and steps so clear that they never lead to overwhelm.

Over 3,000 online courses have now been created with the SOMBA Kickstart process. My students know exactly what to do every week, and they make big progress. Then they look back and say, “Wow, I did all of that.” Yes, you did. You did not know about all the things up front, so you could not overthink them, overanalyse them or get overwhelmed by them.
